Jason Binn

cityfile · 02/03/08 09:32PM

Jason Binn founded Niche Media, the publisher of such titles at Gotham, Hamptons, and LA Confidential. By holding a mirror up to America's richest and making a pretty penny doing so, he's currently lending the midas touch to Gilt Group as a Chief Advisor.

Jason Binn And Keith Kelly Found In Bed Together

Joshua Stein · 10/31/07 03:55PM

Every year at the American Magazine Conference, Jason Binn, the chief of Niche Media, hosts a dinner party for those who he deems "important." And every year the AMC planners try to stop him because, well, it's a dumb idea. This year Jason Binn and New York Times star David Carr invited a select group for a night of club hopping. It was all harmless fun until they ended up at a club B.E.D.

"As wealth becomes more fungible and oddly democratized, someone has to keep score, and to that end, [Jason] Binn and his partners stand ready to chronicle fabulousness at every fund-raiser, award show and seasonal fete." [NYT]

Media Bubble: Try and Act Surprised

  • Jeff Zucker may take over for Bob Wright as head of NBC by the end of the year. Honestly, you get the feeling that Zucker could rip the head off a transgendered prostitute and skullfuck it in the middle of a board meeting and he'd still get promoted. [NYP]

Lies Well Disguised: Donny Deutsch & Jason Binn

abalk2 · 10/17/06 10:50AM

This year, Donny Deutsch, the biggest douchebag in the advertising industry, started "writing" a Gotham magazine feature for the Napoleonic-complexed Jason Binn, the biggest douchebag in the magazine industry, ingeniously titled "Deutsch Mark" (a quick copyright search finds that "I Suck The Ass Of An Ass Beast" is also unclaimed, Don). The gig has ended up being, quite blatantly, a monthly one-page advertorial for Deutsch's trailblazing CNBC show, The Big Idea.

Remainders: Back When 'Loaded' Was Still Highbrow

abalk2 · 08/18/06 04:30PM

• Unattractive Rachel Dratch replaced by considerably more pulchritudinous Jane Krakowski. Tabloid Baby thinks it's a move foisted on juiceless Lorne Michaels by a shallow, lookist business; we're of the opinion that it's nice of NBC to think about its audience for once. [Tabloid Baby]
• A butterfly flaps its wings and Jason Binn is branded a douchebag. Works for us. [Copyranter]
• If you missed last night's performance art piece on the whole Stadtmiller/Dick contretemps, here's the transcript. [BMcB]
• A lad mag progenitor looks back, pines for the days when features could be about bacon sandwiches and house music. Ah, were we ever that young? [Independent]
• Thanks to some goddamn activist judge, fey LES hipster boys will soon be smoking "Parliament Slightly Less Cancery" cigarettes. [AdAge]
• This weekend in Washington Square Park: silent disco! How will you know the difference? [Club free Time]
• Guy comes home from work and says, "Great news, honey, I just won the lottery! Start packing!" Wife says, "Oh, how wonderful! Should I pack for the beach or for the mountains?" Guy says, "I don't care, just get the hell out!" [FishbowlDC]

'Gotham' Fails To See Irony In Forcing Its Employees To Ride Great American Scream Machine

abalk2 · 08/17/06 12:00PM

Work parties: A chance for the company to reward its employees while giving those employees the opportunity to interact outside the usual confines of the office. It's a time to bond, to kick back, relax, and celebrate who you are as an organization, but more importantly, who you are as individuals. And if you're an individual who works for Jason Binn (last seen on a giant yacht in the Hamptons) and Gotham mag, well, you're going to Six Flags with everyone you try to ignore on the elevator! Whether you like it or not. Full soul-crushing e-mail after the jump.

Jason Binn, King of the World

Chris Mohney · 07/18/06 09:45AM

We generally leave the Hamptons to our betters, preferring to stew the summer away in our gloriously depopulated metro. However, it's worth a quick jaunt out to Long Island for this one moment, recorded by the New York Daily News's Lloyd Grove. The occasion was a yacht party put on by Moira Forbes (associate publisher at ForbesLife, a mag all about her life) and Jason Binn (duke of Hamptons and Gotham mags, and lordling of Niche Media):

A report from the office of Gotham magazine, the Manhattan outpost of Jason Binn's rich-people-friendly Niche Media empire:

Gawker's (Borrowed) Index: How Does Donny Deutsch Love Himself?

Jesse · 02/28/06 04:30PM

Copyranter Mark Duffy, arguably the angriest living boy in New York, happened across insufferable adman Donny Deutsch's new column in Jason Binn's equally insufferable Gotham magazine. Deutsch, Binn, Gotham: They're all things we do our best to avoid, and so we owe great thanks to 'Ranter Duffy, who took a good luck at Deutsch's first effort — it's called, theoretically cleverly, "Deutsch Mark" — and crunched the numbers that remind us why we engage in that avoidance:

'Gotham' Mag Hits Rock Bottom

Jessica · 02/07/06 11:05AM

Courtesy of our beloved Bucky Turco, the celebrity zenith of last night's Gotham magazine party: the Sugar Hill Gang (now over the hill and considerably less sugary) perform "Rapper's Delight." Again.

'Gotham' Scores Rudy Q&A, Infuriating 'Observer'

Jesse · 01/05/06 12:31PM

Mazel tov to the indefatigable Jason Binn, whose usually content-free Gotham magazine has apparently scored the local-news scoop of the year: an exclusive interview with Rudy Giuliani.

Gossip Roundup: Kidman Screwed by Own Sister

Jessica · 12/07/05 11:07AM

• Jessica Simpson's assistant CaCee may have been pushing rumors about Simpson cheating on husband Nick Lachey, and now Nicole Kidman's sister Antonia may have slipped to the press about Kidman's rumored engagement to singer Keith Urban. You just can't trust a bitch these days. [Scoop (2nd item)]
• Why we're glad we don't work at Page Six: Paris Hilton personally calls the column to clarify that her ex-fiancé Paris Latsis merely enjoyed a single tequila shot with the heiress and her current beau, Stavros Niarchos. The thought of hearing that abnormally deep voice on the phone gives us chills. [Page Six]
Gotham magazine cover girl Natasha Richardson hates publisher Jason Binn's penchant for forced photo-ops at his parties. You and the rest of the world, darling. [Lowdown]
• The strap on model Naomi Campbell's dress breaks but is quickly repaired, much to the disappointment of those hoping for a nip slip — including Andre Leon Talley, according to Rush & Molloy. Somehow, we don't think the Vogue queen was too interested. [R&M (3rd item)]
• To clarify rumors from yore, jittery actress Brittany Murphy dumped her manager, not the other way around, nor does she do smack and fuck the help. [Page Six]

Scariest Invitation of the Week (And It's Just Monday)

Jesse · 11/14/05 05:45PM

Every person will have their own most terrifying part of this — perhaps the singing career of a Larry King wife, perhaps the age difference between Larry and the latest wife, perhaps the simple horror of being at event thrown by Jason Binn — but for us it's an easy one: Larry. Just Larry. The meatpacking district is no place for a 71-year-old man.

Richard Johnson and Sessa von Richthofen's Totally Amazingly Awesome Engagement Party

Jessica · 09/23/05 02:29PM

So, what are you guys doing on Monday night? Don't have any plans? Oh, pity — guess you weren't invited to the party of the season. Page Six skipper Richard Johnson and his lovely fiancée Sessa von Richthofen are celebrating their engagement that night at the Four Seasons' Poolroom, and we're sure everyone who's anyone (in PR) will be there at 7 P.M. sharp!

Jason Binn Births 'Boston Common'

Jessica · 09/20/05 09:07AM

Make no mistake: Jason Binn is the most virile man this side of Abraham. The Niche Media publisher has been been spreading his luxury magazine seed all over the damn place, most recently with last week's launch of Capitol File magazine, a D.C.-centric title that weighs more than its inexplicable covergirl, D.C. non-resident Ashley Judd. This week brings yet another new title, Boston Common, which is described as "a 352-page doorstop filled with glossy ads for things you can't afford — diamond-encrusted watches, fabulous homes — and puffy, party-oriented proto-journalism."

Baby Binn: It's a Girl!

Jessica · 08/31/05 10:59AM

Congratulations to Niche Media publisher Jason Binn, whose wife Haley gave birth yesterday to Gotham's littlest subscriber, Penny Olivia Binn, who looked positively chic at just under 7 lbs.
