Two years ago, LAPD officers Sharlton Wampler and Antonio Villegas shot and killed Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Now, they are suing, alleging that the department is racially discriminating against them by keeping them on desk duty, because Ford was black and they are not.

The Los Angeles Police Department announced this morning that they are testing a knife once found on property owned by the relatively unknown accused murderer O.J. Simpson.

James Nichols and Luis Valenzuela, the alleged perpetrators, were partners, working out of the department’s Hollywood precinct.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man outside a gas station in Lynwood on Saturday morning, the Los Angeles Times reports. At a news conference on Sunday, officials showed a video and photos in which the man, 28-year-old Nicholas Robertson, appeared to be holding a gun.

At a recent staff meeting at the Southeast Division station of the Los Angeles Police Department, Ryan Whiteman, a tall, barrel-chested sergeant, ran down the mid-year crime stats for Jordan Downs, a public housing development in the Watts neighborhood of South L.A.. Jordan Downs is home to some of the most destitute families in Los Angeles County. “Five generations of abject poverty,” is how civil rights attorney Connie Rice described the 700-unit complex, which looks like a cross between a tenement and a dilapidated army barracks. “It’s Third World America.”

On Friday, LAPD officers shot a man who had raised his arm, wrapped in a towel, towards them, the Los Angeles Times reports. Police said the officers thought he had a gun; he did not.

On Friday, a jury in Los Angeles found Officer Mary O’Callaghan guilty of assault under color of authority, the Los Angeles Times reports. Video shows O’Callaghan slapping and kicking the handcuffed Alesia Thomas, who lost consciousness and died soon after, in the back of her squad car. O’Callaghan was not charged in Thomas’ death.

Nearly everyone following the riveting HBO series The Jinx agrees that the documentary had at least something to do with the arrest of its subject, Robert Durst, on Saturday night. The one exception, it seems, is the LAPD, which is somehow claiming that Durst's arrest warrant was issued entirely based on evidence uncovered during their investigation and not because of anything from The Jinx.

The homeless man shot and killed by police officers on L.A.'s Skid Row this past Sunday has, until now, only been identified as "Africa." Sources inside the investigation of the shooting now tell the Los Angeles Times that the man was 39-year-old Charley Saturmin Robinet, a convicted bank robber and French national.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck defended the officers who shot a homeless man to death on the city's skid row yesterday, offering visual evidence he says supports their version of what he called "an extreme tragedy."

On the third night of protests following a Ferguson grand jury's decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the killing of Michael Brown, Los Angeles police arrested 130 "unruly" demonstrators Wednesday for unlawful assembly and failure to disperse, KTLA reports.

Ezell Ford, 25, was shot and killed by LAPD officers near his home in Los Angeles' Florence neighborhood Monday evening. Ford was unarmed, and a man who identified himself as a witness told local news outlet KTLA that cops shot Ford multiple times in the back while he laid down on the sidewalk.

The LAPD is searching for a shotgun that fell off a police motorcycle yesterday. If you find it, just pick it up, approach the nearest LAPD officer, and see how that goes.

Rihanna may have no problem breaking a teenage fan's heart by encouraging millions of Twitter followers as they gang up on her, but she was quick to make amends for breaking someone's phone last week.
