Catfish TV Show Will Exploit More Sad Internet Liars

Louis Peitzman · 08/05/12 11:19AM

Catfish was a documentary (allegedly) about the deception of an online relationship: it reminded us how easy it is to lie, to present a false version of yourself, and to find a connection with someone who doesn't exist.

MTV's House of Style Returns With Media Extravaganza

Rich Juzwiak · 07/24/12 04:20PM

Today, MTV announced that it's relaunching its show of deep thoughts about a shallow industry — House of Style, the Cindy Crawford-hosted video magazine that ran from '89 to '99, is set to return to the network on Oct. 9. The new host (or "muse," as they say) will be announced on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards, which will be held Sept. 6.

MTV Trots Out Charlie Sheen To Reminds Us How Awful They Really Are

Matt Toder · 06/03/12 09:34PM

I'm not sure when the MTV Movie Awards started creating new categories each year but this year's award for New Cult Film (that didn't even have nominees) was clearly just an excuse to give Charlie Sheen something to do. Why he had to be involved remains a mystery to me.

Pauly D's New Show Confirms That Jersey Shore Is Dead

Rich Juzwiak · 03/30/12 09:28AM

Last night, MTV premiered The Pauly D Project, but it was more of a chore than a project. A spin-off documenting the jet-setting life of the most likeable Jersey Shore cast member (not that that's saying much) and his band of disciples, Project has all the charisma and excitement of belly button lint acting out Entourage.

Teen Mom Cast Will Finally Leave the Nest

Louis Peitzman · 03/18/12 09:15AM

The four teen moms at the heart of MTV's Teen Mom — Amber, Catelynn, Farrah, and Maci — will be moving on to bigger and better things after the show airs its fourth season this summer. While MTV won't say whether the girls opted to leave so they could focus on their continuing education, or whether MTV forced them out for getting too old, the end result is we'll soon be seeing the last of them, outside of endless reruns.

MTV's New Hipsteriffic Show I Just Want My Pants Back, in 30 Seconds

Matt Toder · 02/03/12 02:42PM

Last night was the premiere of a new MTV sitcom, I Just Want My Pants Back. It tells the heart warming tale of four young hipsters looking for love, riding the J train and thinking about environmental sustainability. Fret not if you didn't catch it, here's a thirty second recap of the show at its most hipster-douchey.

New Jersey Bans Snooki and JWOWW's Jersey Shore Spinoff

Brian Moylan · 01/31/12 04:10PM

The city of Hoboken, New Jersey, has denied a request for a proposed MTV Jersey Shore spinoff starring the show's boozy Lucy and Ethel JWOWW and Snooki. Damn, no one in New Jersey wants these two.

Watch a Streaker Upstage Hayden Panettiere at the MTV EMAs

Matt Cherette · 11/06/11 07:16PM

The MTV Europe Music Awards (aka the VMAs but with cooler accents) took place today in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Major winners included Lady Gaga, who came dressed up as several versions of the Pixar lamp, and alleged teen mom Justin Bieber. How predictable! One thing EMA viewers didn't see coming, however, was the completely naked man who rushed the stage during a presentation by Hayden Panettiere, who managed to appear shocked despite the fact she probably knew it was going to happen. The NSFW video is above.

Kerry Washington's Latest Chance

Richard Lawson · 10/26/11 05:01PM

The perpetually up-and-coming actress gets another shot at the big leagues. Also today: Showtime wisely renews their best show, Jennifer Coolidge gets grunt work, and MTV says goodbye to some friends.

Britain's Trashy Jersey Shore Wannabe Is Finally Available in the U.S.

Brian Moylan · 10/17/11 01:44PM

Hulu put up the first two seasons of The Only Way Is Essex yesterday, the best British export since the Cadbury Creme Egg. Just like the Creme Egg, it's tasty, sugary, ridiculous, completely fake, and leaves you feeling just a little bit sick when you're finished. It's like the best parts of Jersey Shore and The Hills all at once.

MTV Really Wants It to Be the '90s Again

Brian Moylan · 10/13/11 02:46PM

Since it stopped playing music, MTV was supposed to be the youth culture network, always airing zeitgeisty shows that capture what's next. Then why are they bringing back all their hits from the '90s?

Watch a College Athlete Come Out to His Teammates

Matt Cherette · 10/12/11 12:13AM

In honor of Tuesday's National Coming Out Day, MTV aired a special this evening called Coming Out, which followed two 20-somethings as they prepared to reveal to others that they're gay. One of the subjects was Nevin, an all-star rugby player for Ohio State University who decided to finally come out to his teammates. So how did it go? Watch the clip above to find out.

Let's Cool It With the Zombies for a While, Huh?

Richard Lawson · 09/27/11 05:06PM

The undead are great and all, but haven't we had enough? Also today: some more ratings to help you understand where everything lies, and a what-to-watch suggestion for tonight.
