Iran Wants Security Council Action Over Britain's Riot Response
Iranian government officials are loving the riots in Britain. In a flurry of statements over the last couple of days, lawmakers have attacked the police response and said they'd like to send human rights observers to London to keep an eye on events there. Iran's Majlis are even thinking about closing the British embassy in Tehran.
And today, stubby president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked during a radio interview, "What else should happen for the [United Nations] Security Council to react?" Good question! In some ways it's understandable that the Iranian government would latch onto the riots, considering the steady roasting they get from the international community. But it's also pretty rich coming a government that does things like this.
