Thanks to the (few) rules governing campaign Super PACs, candidates aren’t technically allowed to coordinate with them. Which means candidates can’t technically feed them hours and hours of raw video footage for future campaign ads. Candidates can however, casually leave them on a neglected YouTube account for Super PACs to find. And thank god they can, because Ted Cruz did.

At a press conference earlier today, Ben Carson referred to the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California as “a hate crime.”

The Republican establishment’s progression through the stages of grief over Donald Trump’s enduring popularity is getting perilously close to “acceptance.” Fortunately, the party has some fresh new ideas about how it will proceed in the now-thinkable case of a Trump nomination.

After bearing some heavy criticism for being slow to respond to last week’s mass shooting, the still all-too-many presidential candidates have been quick to offer up their thoughts and, as always, their prayers in the wake of today’s shooting in San Bernardino.

Last month, The Onion ran an article with the headline “GOP Warns Refugees Likely to Be Driven to Terrorism by Way America Treats Them.” Ha ha!, we said. What a funny and absurd idea—what a farce! Now, two weeks later, that Onion headline has been given the gift of life. And it would like you to call it “Ben Carson.”

Former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani isn’t saying Donald Trump is right about his unambiguous claim that “thousands and thousands of people were cheering” in Jersey on 9/11. But he’s also not saying that Donald Trump isn’t not right. And to back up his timorous show of support, Giuliani trotted out a straight-up hate crime as an example.

Even within the context of this upended-Gathering-of-the-Juggalos-outhouse of a presidential election cycle, Ted Cruz’s crescendoing spingasm on the Planned Parenthood shooting is shocking and bizarre. This really could go anywhere.

Earlier today, Donald Trump met with “over a hundred” black pastors in a private meeting after it came out that Trump was (falsely) framing the event as a public endorsement. Even so, Trump still sort of got the press conference he wanted—albeit with only about half a dozen pastors flanking him. And also Omarosa was there.

During this election season, you will hear candidates argue about lots of things. Only two things are really important.
