Did you read about a slideshow of ugly undersea creatures on The New York Times' website on Friday? If so, the Times is deeply sorry, and would like to offer the following clarification:

A capsule summary on Friday directing readers to pictures of ugly creatures at nytimes.com/science left the impression that fish and crustaceans are not part of the animal kingdom. Many of them may be ugly, but they are no less animals.

We deeply appreciate the magnanimous tone from the St. Francises (Saints Francis?) at 620 Eighth Avenue, but mostly we're glad to have the whole "are ugly fish animals?" question cleared up before Times Public Editor Arthur Brisbane was forced to weigh in.
