Barack Obama Hates Wearing This Goddamn Indonesian Silly Shirt
President Obama and fellow Pacific leaders didn't don any "silly shirts" — a.k.a. "festive local garb" — at last week's APEC conference in Hawaii, breaking from the conference's proud tradition of dressing powerful global leaders in clown costumes. "I got rid of the Hawaiian shirts because I looked at pictures of some of the previous APEC meetings," he explained, "and... I thought this may be a tradition that we might want to break." The War on Fun never ends with this guy. Fortunately, his hosts at his latest stop in Bali have forced him to wear a silly shirt anyway.
The Daily Mail details the silly shirts of choice on display this year, with its usual thoroughness and 10,000 photos:
Balinese batik shirts are a relatively recent creation, influenced by the neighbouring Java island where the garments are more established, and have proved popular as souvenirs over the course of the 20th century in line with the rising number of tourists to Bali.
Traditional colours include indigo, dark brown, and white, which represent the three major Hindu Gods - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
Obama wore green, the "Muslim color."
Look at sad Obama, in the photo. He hates wearing this! He wants to wear a dark suit and a blue tie and stare at people and say, "Look. Look." (This is what Barack Obama says.) But no, he's got to wear this damn thing and pose next to a commie. Home's never felt so far away.
