Indonesian police charged a young American couple with murder in Bali today. Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21, allegedly killed Heather's mom, stuffed her into a suitcase, and left the suitcase in the trunk of a taxi. Mack and Schaefer say 62-year-old Sheila von Wiese-Mack was killed by robbers.

After a tight, contentious race, Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was elected Indonesia's seventh president with 53.15 percent of 130 million estimated votes. "This victory is a victory for all the people of Indonesia," Widodo, a former furniture businessman, told his supporters in Jakarta, Tuesday. Widodo is Indonesia's third president elected by direct vote; the country became the world's third-largest democracy just decades ago.

Both candidates in Indonesia's tight presidential election have claimed victory as votes continue to be counted in the country, which only became a democracy decades ago but is now the third-largest in the world.
